NAPLAN 2024 - Year 3 & 5 students
All families in Years 3 and 5 should have received a NAPLAN brochure by now. If yours has been misplaced, you can find it attached to this newsletter. NAPLAN is scheduled to take place over a 9-day testing window beginning Wednesday March 13.
This will mean that students will complete the NAPLAN Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy tests online, excluding the Year 3 Writing test which will still be delivered using paper. If you have any questions regarding the series of assessments, please contact myself or the classroom teacher.
NAPLAN assessments provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so. At Mullaloo Heights, we prepare students by embedding the skills and knowledge required for NAPLAN in our teaching and learning unit plans. Students can see the types of questions and experience the types of skills and formats both at school and home by visiting:
www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the series of assessments, please contact me, or the classroom teacher.
Thank you,
Mr Adlam
NAPLAN Coordinator

I would like to formally welcome and acknowledge our 2024 Student Leadership Team led by our Head Boy, Quinn and Head Girl, Sophie.
They have now been joined by a team of student councillors. Councillor Elections took place early this term with potential candidates presenting speeches to students in Year 3-6. All voters cast their votes and the following students were selected as councillors: Coco, Grace, Braden and Jack will be Semester 1 Councillors. Maicey, Ayden, Cooper and Hayden will take over in Semester 2.
Although only eight councillors were appointed, all would-be councillors should be incredibly proud of themselves. Each individual prepared a well thought out and persuasive speech which they delivered calmly and confidently – a daunting task in front of such a big audience. You should all be very proud of your effort.
The Faction Captains for 2024 were also recently appointed. Congratulations to these new school leaders who were voted in by their faction peers. They have made a great start working with Mrs Thorby at our Y4-6 Swimming Carnival held this week which was a close contest right up to the end. Well done to Albatross for getting the win!
Our Faction Captains for 2024 are:
Tern: Evelyn and Seth
Gull: Patrick and Ollie
Albatross: Bryce and Madelyn
2024 Year 4 to 6 Faction Swimming Carnival
On Tuesday 27th February, we held our annual swimming carnival at Craigie Leisure Centre. The students in Year 4-6 participated in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly races as well as fun novelty events and relays. Students earnt points for their factions as well as receiving ribbons for their placings. We continued to have timed Championship races where students had the opportunity to earn points to win a medal. It was great to see so many students having a go at the various events and trying their best! A highlight was the water playground and the free swim at the end!
Thank you to all our parent helpers who assisted students and teachers on the day, without our helpers our carnival would not be able to go ahead so please know you are all very much appreciated.
It was a close competition, especially towards the end with only a few points separating the winning faction!!
The overall results were:
1st Albatross 434 points
2nd Gull 432 points
3rd Tern 394 points
