Kaya Families,
And just like that, the holidays are over – welcome back to a brand-new school year. A special welcome to our new families and all the Kindy students who have commenced their education journey here at Mullaloo Heights. It has been a remarkably smooth start to 2024 despite the heatwave. I have enjoyed seeing all the children settle into their new routines and begin their learning for this year.
This year we welcome three new staff members:

Room changes
There has been a few room changes for 2024 which include a new Science Room that is currently under construction in Albatross Block, it is expected to be ready in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, Science is being taken in the classrooms. The Art Room has moved to Osprey Block, and Indonesian will also be held here. The Library has been relocated to Albatross and the PP/1 class has moved to Room 4. I wish to thank the staff for all the work they have put into moving these rooms and setting them up as exciting and engaging learning environments.
Chaplain and Wellbeing Officer
Over the holidays our Chaplain, Ms Pittard, won a full-time position at Duncraig Senior High School which is a fantast opportunity for her. Student Health and Wellbeing is a top priority of mine and to ensure we are able to continue to provide high quality support and programs which support the Health and Wellbeing of the students, staff and families Mrs Lisa Bowe has been appointed as Mullaloo Heights’ Student Wellbeing Officer. Many of you know Mrs Bowe from the Library and she will continue as Library Officer on Monday and Tuesday and Wellbeing Officer on Thursday and Friday. Lisa has a Bachelor of Counselling and a wealth of experience in supporting positive mental health in the community.
Talking to your school
If you have an enquiry or concern the best thing to do is to talk with your child's teacher first. You can then make time to meet with Mike Adlam (Deputy Principal) and myself if necessary. You may wish to use email for some enquiries although complex issues or matters that may take time to resolve will require face to face meetings. Teachers do not have time to respond to emails quickly as they are teaching during the day. Urgent matters should be directed through the school office.
Arriving at school
Students are not to arrive at school before 8.20am, this is for their own safety as there is no supervision by staff prior to this time. When they arrive at school they are to sit outside their classrooms until the doors open at 8.25am. Should you require before school care Big Childcare is operating out of Albatross block they can be contacted via email at mullalooheights@bigchildcare.comUpdating Contact Details
If you have had any changes to your contact details over the holidays, please update them via the front office. It is important that these are kept up to date.

Rangers Parking and Community Safety – Safety around Schools – 40km ZONE
Vehicles which park contrary to parking signage around schools are a major hazard and impact on the safety of children, pedestrians and other road users in these areas. It is imperative that drivers are aware of, and park in accordance with, the parking conditions which apply near schools.
As part of the City’s continuing effort to provide a safer environment for everyone City of Joondalup Officers conduct patrols of school parking in the mornings and afternoons throughout the school term.
As part of this initiative Officers use patrol vehicles, which have been fitted with Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras, to capture digital images of vehicles which are parked contrary to parking requirements near schools. Any infringement notices, issued as part of these patrols, will be sent via mail to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Please see the link below for a copy of the City’s School Parking brochure which provides additional information in relation to parking near schools. This is a reminder for parents and caregivers of their responsibility in ensuring that they park correctly near schools.

Use of Staff Car Park
In the interest of safety, parents and students are NOT permitted to access the school through the staff car park on Charonia Road before or after school. Our staff car park is out of bounds to all pedestrian and motor traffic other than staff themselves. The staff car park is not to be used for dropping off or picking up your children.
There are two pedestrian paths/access points either side of the staff car park on Charonia Road to facilitate safe entry to our school. The staff car park in Charonia Road is our Emergency Access point also. This must be free to allow ambulance, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles entry at all times. Please do not block access to the bitumen area.
