Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to what is already proving to be a busy and exciting term. A variety of whole school events are planned to enhance the great teaching already happening at our school.
Staff and students have returned from the mid-year break with plenty of energy and enthusiasm for the weeks ahead. Over the holiday period, a number of classrooms received a facelift with the installation of some new interactive panels replacing the existing boards and projectors that had served the school well over their lifetime. Now, all regular classrooms have these new panels installed. Talking to the students, they are really enjoying having these new interactive crystal-clear panels in their classroom. I’m not sure who is more excited about this new equipment, the teachers or the students!
Physical Education is certainly a focus this term with the Interschool Cross Country Competition next week and our Faction Athletics Carnival in Week 8. Despite losses over the past few years in the ‘tug-of-war’ competition, teachers are unfazed and already preparing for the annual event against parents and students. I have a feeling this could be our year.
Students (PP-Y6) will be participating in swimming lessons this term at Craigie Leisure Centre. This year, for reasons beyond our control, our students will attend swimming lessons in two separate time allocations. Group 1 will attend lessons in Weeks 5 & 6, and Group 2 will attend in Weeks 9 & 10. See below for more details of these arrangements.
It is not just about sport this term as Mrs Ameduri is working hard with the choir in preparation for the One Voice Concert. Our students will join with schools from around Perth for a performance at the Arena on Friday 18th August. This will be a great opportunity for our students to showcase their talent in front of a large audience at this very special venue.
A favourite week for many is our Book Week and this will be held in Week 7. We have organised lots of fun events and activities to promote reading and celebrate the value of books. Just to give parents a heads up, we are asking students to dress as their favourite book character on Thursday 31st August. This is the date of our special Book Week Assembly, which will include a costume parade, amongst other items, to mark what is going to be a fantastic week. Once again, we will be organising a Mad Hatter’s buddy lunch on Friday 1st September. More information on Book Week will follow in the next newsletter.
We also have our Open Night on Wednesday 30th August from 5-7pm, mark this in your diary and more information will follow.
As you can see, Term 3 is going to be a busy but very exciting term.
Thank you,
Michael Adlam
Deputy Principal

REMINDER - Dogs on School Grounds
We all love your cute furry friends, and it is wonderful to see families walking to school, often with their dogs. A gentle reminder that dogs are not permitted within the school boundary, whether in your arms or on a lead. We have many students who have a fear of dogs and others who have allergies, by allowing dogs on the school grounds it is also difficult to monitor the inevitable interaction between dogs and people which may not always be positive.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this.

Student Leaders – Semester Two
We would like to formally acknowledge the hard work that our Semester Two Student Councillors have already put into their role. Milla, Cody, Teddy and Liam were voted into their position during Term 1 elections. Our Head Boy and Head Girl, Kaden and Layla continue in their role for Semester Two.
I would also like to thank Chase, Cameron, Flynn and Gina who did an amazing job as Semester 1 Councillors. We are very fortunate at Mullaloo to have such a dedicated team of student leaders.
Here is a photo of the Semester 2 Student Leaders.
PEAC (Primary Extension and Challenge) Program
All Year 4 students will be participating in PEAC testing on Tuesday 1st August. The testing will identify students for selection into PEAC. The PEAC program provides part time extension and enrichment for exceptionally able students in Years 5 and 6. Some information was sent home to all families of Year 4 students earlier this week. If you want to know any more information, please contact child’s class teacher or Mr Adlam for more details.
Students in all public primary schools have the opportunity to attend swimming lessons. These lessons are very valuable and provide students with the opportunity to become competent swimmers over time. We strongly recommend that all students participate so they have increased confidence around water and are able to help themselves, and others if they get into difficulty.
Students from Mullaloo Heights Primary School (PP – Y6) will be participating in swimming lessons in Term 3 at Craigie Leisure Centre. This year, for reasons beyond our control, our students will attend swimming lessons in two groups. Group 1 will attend lessons in Weeks 5 & 6, and Group 2 will attend in Weeks 9 & 10. See below for details of which class will attend in each group.
Parent information for students in Group 1 went home this week and this can also be found on our school website and app. Information for Group 2 students will follow closer to the time.

Growing Together - Periwinkle Park
Mullaloo turned on beautiful weather for our tree planting at Periwinkle Park in Week 10 last term. Students from Room 11 along with staff took the short walk to Periwinkle Park where we were joined by representatives from the City of Joondalup and volunteers from the ‘Friends of Periwinkle Park’ Community Group.
On arrival, students learned about the benefits of planting trees in the park and were shown how to correctly plant the seedlings. The City of Joondalup generously provided the seedlings, which included a range of local tree species which were planted to rejuvenate and stabilise some areas of the park. The students dug in and planted over 200 seedlings during the afternoon and gave them a deep soak of water to give them a good start to their new location. The whole exercise was a great success and the students loved getting their hands dirty. Mother Nature has also given the new plants a helping hand with all the recent rain.
This is also the 21st Anniversary of this wonderful project between the Friends of Periwinkle Park and Mullaloo Heights Primary School. We thank them, and the City of Joondalup for helping with this event and we look forward to maintaining this relationship in the future.
Enjoy a few photos of our students working hard on this project.
